RESORB Acoustic isolator – Antivibration support

RESORB ^® acoustic isolators are optimized anti-vibration supports designed to effectively reduce the transmission of mechanical vibrations from high-fidelity speakers to their lightweight and/or thin supports (floating floor, wood floor on joists, wooden board, table, shelf, etc.).

Our researches on solutions currently existing on the market have proven that most of these systems do not isolate high fidelity speakers for their support. In some cases and for certain frequencies, the studied systems amplify the vibrations and thus degrade the performance of the high-fidelity system. The vast majority, if not all, manufacturers of acoustic feet for high-fidelity speakers offer a unique model, whatever the load of the speaker.

The laws of physics being what they are on earth, the only way to avoid transmission of vibrational energy is to convert it into heat. The equipment which perform this energy conversion is called the damper, like those found on motorcycles, cars, trucks, trains… Each damper is adapted to the object it must amortize. A motorcycle damper is not suited for a truck and vice versa.

In High fidelity, the principle remains perfectly the same . A too soft damper under a too heavy high-fidelity speaker will collapse completely and will be inoperative. Conversely, a too rigid damper will not be able to adequately dissipate vibrational energy and will be ineffective. It may even amplify the vibrations, usually in lower frequencies.

BEACOUSTICS has developed RESORB ^® for a wide load range (0.6 to 64.4 kg or 0.7 to 141.9 lbs according the model). This antivibration support has been developed for high-fidelity speaker but may also be used in many other applications involving vibration sources.

The conversion of mechanical energy to thermal energy is achieved by a (small) deflection of the heart of RESORB ®. Like any damper RESORB ^® settles slightly when it is loaded. Whatever the model chosen, compaction is less than 1 mm, depending on the static load applied thereto (in the range of permissible loads on the model).

To ensure a perfect verticality of the enclosure according to the deflection caused by the load and to correct small surface irregularities of the floor, RESORB ^® is height adjustable.
The adjustment range is 2.5 mm / 0.1 inch.

How to choose the right model?

• Find the mass of your speaker
• Determine the position of speaker center of gravity
• Decide to use 3 or 4 feet per speaker
• 3 feet: (two in front of the speaker and one centered at the rear) more economical and easy to adjust. Better suited to small, light speaker
• 4 feet: (two in front of the speaker and two at the rear ends) more stable solution, suited for speakers that already have four spike-shaped feet (RESORB ^®is use as a true acoustic floor tab).
